For many women, this period of change can be very stressful. Factors such as marital problems, empty nest (children leaving home) and loss of their reproductive abilities are all linked to women and menopause.

This type of depression is normally a reaction to some specific trigger. In many instances this type of depression is short-term.

The Depression Diet: Fight Depression Through Eating Right!

The depression diet does not include chocolate.

Women will tell you that chocolate is the cure for depression diets. While eating chocolate will increase your sense of well being for a little while, the sugar crash, when it hits, is often more of a downer than the initial high was to begin with.

The depressed diet includes caffeine, processed sugars, deficiencies in vitamin B, and allergies to certain types of foods. Refined sugars and the treats from the snack machine can aggravate an already depressed system.

Depression affects over five percent (5%) of American teens. And teen depression statistics continue to rise.

One of the chief ways we can identify teen depression is their loss of interest in the things that they normally enjoy. If this continues over a period of time, at least two weeks, then there is the distinct possibility that they are depressed.

Teenagers bodies go through the changes from childhood to adulthood and there are certain expectations. Teen girls worry that they are too fat, too skinny, too dark, too light and all the other negative body images they face daily.

Depression Help - Recognizing a Symptom of Depression

Recognizing a Symptom of Depression

Apathy is a symptom of depression characterized by the joyless mental state of routine and disinterest in the areas of your life which you once found exciting, or at least interesting.

In acute depression, you will find that you are able to attend your usual functions, such as going to your kids little league games or even getting up to go to work, but you can't seem to get excited about anything.

You can't explain to your spouse, you just don't feel right. Your appetite may decrease (or increase,) you may begin to drink more often, or find that you can not sleep.

Depression Help - Women and Depression: Recognizing the Signs and Finding Your Way Back

Women and Depression: Recognizing the Signs and Finding Your Way Back

Depression is caused from a chemical imbalance in the brain. Hormonal fluctuation during the reproductive years also contributes to women being more prone to periods of depression.

Some risk factors for depression in women include poverty, high stress jobs, family history of depression or other mental disorders, a history of childhood abuse (sexual or physical), and losing a parent in early puberty.

Surprisingly, depression seems to affect more married women than single women.

The Diagnostic Tools for Bipolar Depression Symptoms

While manic depression inferred that the illness fluctuated at an even rate, three weeks of mania followed by three weeks of depression, the reality of the mood disorder is that bipolar depression symptoms can range from weeks to months of manic or high episodes, followed by weeks or simply days of the lows or depression symptoms.

Bipolar depression symptoms are the same as before, they have just been re-identified in length of time.

Depression Help - A Typical Manic Depression Symptom is the Need for Speed

A Typical Manic Depression Symptom is the Need for Speed

Like times when you have a wild assortment of ideas. Then there are other days, weeks, and months were you don't want to get out of bed.

One manic depression symptom is evidenced by the inability to sleep. Another is that you begin to notice that you can become irritable almost without provocation, and you don't think anyone is listening to your great, if not somewhat far fetched, ideas.

During a manic phase, which can last weeks and even years, you are highly functioning in your job, especially if you are in the position to delegate.
